I love listening to NPR specially when they push diversity in programing. I paused to think about Terry’s interest in Justin Timberlake. Timberlake is a gifted musician and his low brow song **** in a box made many laugh but it comes at the expense of those R&B musicians TImberlake is making fun at. The R&B Timberlake said he was making fun at has always been dominated by Black artists. Black men’s genitals have historically been subject of much taboo in America. Justin TImberlake’s fantasy to sacrifice through castration of what he deems the driving force of R&B is the Black genitalia.
Justin Timberlake’s curious wonderings into R&B are not like George Michael, Gino Vanelli or Tina Mary. Instead Timberlake has had a history of relying on Black producers for his mega hits and has piggy backed off the scandal from Black musicians. Janet Jackson’s badly orchestrated Super Bowl performance was nothing new. Mick Jagger and Tina Turner did it in LIve Aid (1985). The difference this time was exposing Jacksons breasts in public. Timberlake never stood by Jackson but distanced himself because he could. Terry as a “feminist” you should have known better but time sometimes changes some of us. NPR has changed, it’s become complacent.Thu Oct 7 16:55:35 2010
